Computer running KDE Neon not accepting input from mouse or keyboard after upgrading to 18.04

Hello everyone,

I am running KDE Neon on a custom built desktop. I have recently upgraded from the 16.04 Ubuntu base to 18.04. The upgrade went smoothly, but upon restarting, the computer would not accept input from either mouse or keyboard, independently of which mouse or keyboard I used, as well as the USB port.

Any ideas?

Does keyboard and mouse work OK in the bios setup? If all the keyboards and mice you've tried are wireless, I'd try using a wired variety if you have them available, just to help isolate what's going on. You may just want to back up your data using a livecd and do a fresh install.

I assume that the keyboard will work with grub and at runlevel 3 (or multi-user.target) console mode?

You can boot to this mode temporarily by editing the relevant grub entry "on the fly" as explained here...

It might be useful to examine the Xorg log (eg /var/log/Xorg.1.log) from a previous graphical boot. Any errors reported there?

I have tried both wireless and wired mice and keyboards to no avail. The problem persisted. There were no problems in the BIOS, however.

I booted in to a live USB and checked /var/log/Xorg.0.log, but it was empty.

Since I did not have time to ask any more questions here, I have since formatted the hard drive and installed Kubuntu 18.04, so I got rid of the problem. I am closing this thread. Thank you for the help anyways.
