Computer can't find my printer or scanner??

I have RH 7.3, and I have tried to install my scanner using Xsane. But it states that no scanner can be found. Odd I thought, since under windows I can use it. I got to thinking about this when I remember that my printer also doesn't work. I print, and nothing happens at all. Now I use to be able to print, so something's happened. The printer and scanner are tied in series.

Anyone know what I can do to try and find out why the printer port seems to be dead? I might add that I'm rather new to Linux.

Thanks so much

Kristen

In series of--what? This makes a difference. Is it USB? Do you have SANE loaded and configured? Have you updated the RH 7.3, or are you running the stuff loaded from the original Distribution CDs? Which kernel are you running? This information and more are necessary to help you.

Okay,,, lets see... The scanner is plugged into the printer port, then the printer plugs into the scanner. So no, this is not USB.

I have run the updates, and the Kernel is 7.3.20, and SANE (xsane .84-2 and gimp Xsane .84-2) shows to be installed, I have tried to run sane both from the command line and from X. Which after accepting the licensing agreement, it searches for a scanner, then tells me there are no scanners plugged in.

What more do we need to know? Thank you for investigating this
