You're not the only one with problems with that chipset. I've been installing Red Hat 9 on mine, and I get a black screen and cursor. Tech support has been giving me some grief about it not being supported (going by info from 'lspci -vb | grep VGA' which only gives 2 devices, both of them recognized as Non-VGA unclassified Intel yada yada yada), when the installer shows it. This thing should be able to use the standard VESA driver, but it doesn't for some odd reason.
BTW, the command to get into the configuration utility: 'redhat-config-xfree86'. This only gives me an error that the system cannot start the X server. Any help (without having to get a new video card) would be appreciated.
P.S. also had to go with a different video card (an old Trident TVGA-9000i (half-meg video memory, 2D graphics, ISA--as compared to the 1M of the integrated video). Red Hat support simply said that the Proliant 5000's chipset is unsupported.
