Compaq Proliant 2500R


I have a Compaq Proliant 2500r with 512mb ram
When I tried to install redhat 8,9 , I get similiar issues with Not enough Ram
I even tried the Linux mem option and it hangs. So I tried the cd that came with redhat Linux bible (rh9). It ram it little longer but hang with a Kernel issue. Please help

Hmm...

My 1850R with 384MB RAM behaved very badly (but nothing specifically memory-related) but a quick clear of the CMOS ram (removed the little battery jumper for 10 seconds) solved everything. Do you have the SmartStart disc? - you can download the ISO images from Compaq (now HP) - You can change all the settings and configuration with the utilities on it.

I can successfully boot Knoppix with kernel 2.6 on a Compaq Proliant 2500 with 128 Mb RAM, using the memmap options. The string runs like this:

memmap=exactmap memmap=640k@0 memmap=127M@1M

(I will double-check when I come back home on Monday)
