Compaq Presario 7110US having trouble finding OS occasionally

Hi. Im having issues with my desktop where i'll turn it on an get a message "No OS Found on any device" The weird thing is sometimes i'll get that message and other times it works fine. When it works i get a message that says something like "The following updates have been made to the configuration" Or something similar and then it list off my two harddrives and my dvd and cd rom drive. I have grub installed on the mba of hda. Im not positive where the issue might be from. Is it maybe the BIOS? Or could it just be that the drive is old and it is hard to detect it now? I don't have the funds for a new computer right now so if it is just the harddrive i could pick up another one in the meantime. The harddrive is the original one for the computer and the computer is from 2001 or so. Has anyone else had this issue or something similar?
