I am running Red Hat 9 on a Compaq Evo N610C. It probes the video and discovers the Rage Mobility 7500 32MB without a problem. It can't detect the display. I'm guessing this is common for laptops. I have chosen the "Generic Laptop Display 1400x1050". This does seem to work fine during setup.
My problem lies when it boots up into the GUI, sometimes the display is perfect, other times it acts like the refresh rate is messed up. When it does boot with the messed up refresh rate, sometimes a simple reboot fixes it. Other times it does not. I have to reboot several times to correct it.
I have the laptop dual booting with XP / RH 9. XP has no problems with the display.
This does not happen all the time, but it can be annoying when it is. I've checked Compaq's (HP) web site for info. But the technical numbers for the refresh rate and screen don't appear to be working for me.
Anyone else run this particular hw/sw combo? Or does anyone know of a website that might give more info?
Thanks,
Chris
