Compaq Deskpro EN Sound Configuration

I have a Compaq Deskpro EN PII 450mhz system w/ onboard soundcard running RedHat 9.0. I believe the card is a Soundblaster 16 compatible card, but cannot seem to find any model number for it. I have already configured it so that it plays sound from CD, but when I try playing MP3s w/ doesn't seem to work. The music comes out in chunks and repeated twice. For example, if 1 2 3 4 5 were the parts of the would play 1 1 2 2 3 3 4 4 5 5. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
