Compact Flash Serail Number with USB Reader

I am looking for a way to read the unique Compact Flash (CF) Serial Number using an USB CF reader. I been doing it with an IDE CF reader and using hdparms. (Example #hdparm -I /dev/hdb). The problem with IDE CF reader is not stable when removing CF and putting in another. I can do everything I need to do with the USB CF reader accept get the CF serial number.

How can I get the Serial Number of the CF using USB CF reader?

Yes, that's true. USB readers abstract cards to make them all look like 'mass storage devices'. Therefore, requesting the serial number gets you the serial number of the device, not the card.

I know asking for the serial number using hdparm gives the serial number of the device not the card.
Is there a way of getting the Serial Number of the CF using USB CF reader?

I don't believe so, because its not being used as a CF device (as far as Linux is concerned, anyway)
