Dear sir
I am getting problem in serial port communication because i am not able to access external device which i connected to my serial port
if i type command like
setserial -ga /dev/ttyS0
I am getting message like,
/dev/ttyS0, Line 0, UART: 16550A, Port: 0x03f8, IRQ: 4
Baud_base: 115200, close_delay: 50, divisor: 0
closing_wait: 3000
Flags: spd_normal skip_test
Is it means my serial port driver is configured properly.
"The output you are getting from _setserial_ is indeed correct. Mine is identical and I have no problems using my serial-port modem, however you should check with your BIOS to see what port and IRQ your serial port(s) are using. If you are trying to use another device, however, it may not be that simple. What are you trying to plug in? If it _is_ a serial port modem, what are you using to dial with? Have you set the _init_ strings properly? "
I don't understand your question like _init_ strings properly what do u mean by this?
This is the response i got from Grant
can u please tell me how can i check these settings!!
from my above command port is 0x03f8 and IRQ 4 because problem what i am facing is the same H/W is working fine with red hat linux, that's what i heard from the supplier but mine is suse 8.1 linux which is giving me the problem.
This is the hardware i am trying to communicate u can find in this url.
http://www.amptek.com/mcasoft.html
The software i am trying to use is spec software from
www.certif.com to access the above hardware.
Basically i want to know like, is there any diffrence in serial port driver implementation and hardware access between suse 8.1 linux and red hat. Because I heard like SuSE invoke the setserial command by default when booting the system. I saw message in the console like serial port configured while system is booting.
Thanks
