CMI8378 and Mandrake 9.2 -- Not Working

I just converted from Windows XP to Mandrake 9.2... so far it's great!

My onboard sound is not working, and it seems this is a common problem. I have looked at past posts and haven't found anything useful yet. When I first booted up in Mandrake 9.2, I had a great sound play that made me happy my sound was working. But since then no sound has worked, and I can hear hissing and crackling when I turn my speakers up a little high. Anyone else have this problem?

It says the ALSA driver is installed and working...

I am new to Linux (of course...)
