Cmedia 9880 sound (probly an easy fix)
well i hhave a CMedia 9880 on my 915p-a 1.2 (ECS) and i have 2 problems...
1.) sound is crackly!
2.) i have no inputs
and im on Kubuntu using newest kernel i have 5.1 speakers and just wanted to do Raids on wow and i cant without a mic or clear sound :P
any help would be appreciated thanks

Hello.
Crackly sound is most likely a result of having the PCM turned up too high. Try going into KMix and turning it down.
Also in KMix, make sure that the microphone isn't muted, and that the volume is turned up. If it's not there, try typing "alsamixer" in a terminal.

i checked and they arent muted and why do only some apps sound crackly? Wow is crackly xmms isnt :s but i tried it and nothin works

Perhaps one uses ALSA and the other uses OSS? Do you have any way of checking (perhaps in wine/cedega) which is being used?
Please post the results of "ls -l /dev/dsp" and "ls -l /dev/audio".

localhost ~ # ls -l /dev/dsp
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 9 Mar 2 21:37 /dev/dsp -> sound/dsp
localhost ~ # ls -l /dev/audio
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 11 Mar 2 21:37 /dev/audio -> sound/audio
and sorry for the long reply im now using Gentoo and same issue :P

Try going into XMMS and then right-clicking and going to preferences. Find out which sound server (plugin) it is using (ALSA or OSS) and make sure that your crackly programs are using the same one. In Cedega, go to Edit > Configuration Profiles > (pick the profile you're using) > Edit, and make sure that it's using the right sound system.
