Clicksmart 310 webcam DOES work in Linux

I recently picked up a Logitech Clicksmart 310 to upgrade from my ancient digital camera. I knew about the issues with linux compatibility but gave it a go. I have gotten it working in Mandrake 10 flawlessly. I went to this site and downloaded the experimental kernel module:

http://mxhaard.free.fr/download.html

I followed the instructions and just ran "make" and "make install" and it installed the module (I also had to modprobe the videodev but that was academic) I had already loaded genomeeting. Now with Mandrake's magicdev system, I plug in the camera and genomeeting pops up and I can use the webcam. I still am looking for a program to download pictures, but I konw now the camera does work. No tinkering, no fidling. It just loads fine. Unfortunately the utils on that site won't compile on mandrake. I'll look into that later. But it does work.

Any luck finding a program to download pictures? I'm thinking of getting one myself.

Nope. i've checked all over. There's no way this camera is going to download pictures in linux. It's an older camera and logitech isn't providing the necessary specs to develop a driver. Also, the quality is so-so. You might want to consider the newer clicksmart 510 or even the 410. I wish I had gotten one of those instead. Or another type of camera. It is fine for a small webcam but for static pic the quality is kind of lacking. I got mine for $5 so I'm not sore about it.

See most cameras are recognized as usb storage devices to download the pics. But this one doesn't have a compatible configuration.
