chmodding hardware to not reset to defults after reboot

ive recently written a program that reads from /dev/ttyS0, and i would like normal useres to be able to run it. this means logging in as root and manually giving other permission to read the device, because every thime i reboot, the permissions of the device get set back to 550.
how can i make my changes stick?

thanks

Edit /etc/security/console.perms

Add a new device class: <ttyS0>=/dev/ttyS0

Drop down in the file where the other permissions are defined and add (on a new line): <console> 0550 <ttyS0> 0550 root

This will change the ownership to the console user on login with perms of 0550.
