check.sh from ATI.com cannot find XFree86 ver.

Im trying to figure out why I cant get the ATI drivers working on my Mandrake 10.1 machine. While trying to figue out which version of XFree86 I am running, I downloaded the check.sh from ATI.com and while running the command this is the error I got, any suggestions?

Code:
[root@empiricus ryedunn]# ./check.sh
=====================================================================
 ATI Technologies
=====================================================================
Your possibly not running this script from the console
or maybe you simply dont have the console ownership.
Unable to determine XFree86 Version. Stopping now.
