Check presence of HDs in grub before boot?

I have this problem that sometimes one of my SATA harddisks is not recognized in boot. I assume that it is a problem with mainboard. Anyway, one possibility would be to install grub on both harddrives and should the "default" harddrive drop off the boot would be executed from the other drive. In this grub menu I would only include a restart command and then hope that the situation is cleared. How do I accomplish restart with grub?

Is there any other option for checking the presence of the HDs before proceeding?

This is accomplished by the fallback entry in menu.lst.
