Cheapest PC

I'm thinking of buying a low cost PC with no operating system installed. Anyone care to share my options. I'd like to spend as little money as possible.

Thanks

One thing to consider is to purchase the components individually and assemble a PC yourself. Assuming that you've already got a keyboard, mouse, and monitor, then realistically the only required components are: a case, a motherboard, a CPU, RAM, a hard drive, and a CD drive. (This assumes that the mobo comes with onboard video, sound, and LAN, and that the case has a power supply unit.) Optional components would be a video card, sound card, NIC, CD-RW, DVD, etc. Assembly itself is actually pretty easy, even though it's common to be apprehensive about the possibility of messing something up. (Certainly for me, the first time I did it I was plenty nervous, but once you do it, you realize that it's way easier than what you thought it might be like)

Anyway, obviously the grand total would depend on exactly which components you buy, but if you look at the price and the technical specs for a pre-built machine from Dell or whoever, building a machine yourself to those same tech specs will save you approx 40% or 50%. Good luck with it and Welcome to LQ -- J.W.
