Greetings !,

I am trying to connect CentOS6.3 workstation (with NVIDIA Quadro 4000 video card) to a distance technology unit Tandberg for teaching between two campuses. The screen resolution needs to be set at 1024x768 to work properly.
When I connect the work station to VGA card the resolution changes to 640x480 without giving any other choices to choose from.

I edited /etc/X11/xorg.conf file under subsection Screen, setting Modes to "1024x768_60". But it doesn't work.

I have NVIDIA driver installed and it works very well when I connect to HP monitor 24inches with the resolution of 1920x1200.

Your suggestions would be appreciated.

First CentOS 6.3 is Unsupported
the ONLY supported version in the 6 series is the current 6.4
it is advisable that you upgrade ASAP
the Quadro 4000 uses the almost legacy driver 304.88

also centos6 shipped with the Nouveau driver and NOT the nvidia.run ( or the kmod-nvidia )
PS. the kmod-nvidia for the unsupported 6.3 is VERY OLD and dose NOT have any current bug fixes

so
are you using the nouveau driver ?
or did you blacklist it and install the OLD kmod-nvidia using yum ?
or the current 304.88.run for that almost legacy card ?

if you are using the nvidia driver then there should be installed the nvidia config tool
you can set the resolution there
--- you need to be root to save the xorg.conf ! ---

Just FYI, the Quadro 4000 uses a GF100 GPU, same as in the '400' series geforce cards. It can use the newer 310+ drivers as well as the 'almost legacy' (haha, nice) 304.XX drivers.

I am using NVIDIA driver and now I upgraded my system to CentOS6.4 and installed the latest NVIDIA driver.
The problem remains the same. When I connect to HP monitor, nvidia-settings provide me with range of screen resolution options, but connecting to Tandberg system (I guess it fails to understand the output hardware), it gives me only two options (840x and 600x).

Do you have any other suggestions at xorg.conf level or others?

did you also blacklist the nouveau driver ?
as in are you now using the blue and white progress bar when you boot
OR
do you have the circle

you must see the blue and white progress bar when you boot

And WHAT driver ?
the kmod-nvidia 304.88 or 304.108 installed from the elrepo repo and using yum ?

if you used the .run
Did you ALSO !!!! rebuild the boot image ?
-- that is a must do !!!!
--- you MUST remove the nouveau driver from the image before the run driver can work

I get white and blue progress bar while booting.
I installed the latest NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64.319.49.run driver from NVIDIA site.
I removed the nouveau driver from CentOS6.3 image. Do you think I must repeat those steps again?
