changing mount points

On my current system (running Slackware 9) my hard drive is partitioned as such:
hda1 (/home)
hda2 (/)
hda3 (swap)

The problem I ran into is that the partition for hda1 is small and thus my home directory ran out of space very quickly. What I want to do is simply move the contents of /home to hda2.
If I remove the lines in my fstab and mtab where the mount point for hda1 is established as /home, then copy the contents of hda1 directly into /home on hda2, will that work?

you don't ever edit mtab, it's for information only, if you unmount the drive then the entry will dissapear from mtab.
