Changing Mount Names


I was wondering if there is a way I can change the names of my cdroms in my /mnt folder...

for example, I want to make my /mnt/cdrom /mnt/dvd
and my /mnt/cdrom1 /mnt/cdrw


Is this possible? and if so how do I do it?

be warned though...I am a

You could try changing the mount points in the /etc/fstab file. Your fstab file probably looks similar to this:

/dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom udf,iso9660 noauto,owner,kudzu,ro 0 0
/dev/cdrom1 /mnt/cdrom1 udf,iso9660 noauto,owner,kudzu,ro 0 0

at least it looks like that in Redhat 9. create the directory /mnt/dvd then try changing the line "/mnt/cdrom" to "/mnt/dvd". if you're affraid of breaking something backup the fstab file first, and after you change the fstab file you may have to reboot for the mounts to re-mount. I believe there is a way to re-mount w/out restarting, but I dont' know it. Hope that makes sense or helps.
