Hi, if the two motherboards are not exactly the same, they may not be using the exact same modules.
That error seems to me to be caused by a chipset not being activated to connect the memory devices like data drives.
You might find there is a initramfs built from the old system, it gets read really early but it'll have the wrong modules listed in there.
The computer should boot if you rename initramfs, imo. I'd try it.
btw, you can generate a new initramfs with...
Code:
update-initramfs -u -k all

that was not the real error, these are just the consequences of a previous issue.
otherwise it is the duplicate of https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...es-4175727149/

Reawon:hardware, Ram, processor, and associated driver change
Hi, just wanted to grab the attention since the above changed from the earlier configuration. Maybe the system is still using the earlier configuration and booting. That's why boot failure. Hence I presumed it must be an initrd failure. can we check whether it's correct or not? suggestions please. Or way outs.

Fedora uses dracut to generate the initramfs. If as you mentioned you can enter rescue mode the following will regenerate the initramfs for all installed kernels.
Code:
dracut --regenerate-all --force

By default, Fedora installs a rescue kernel, with matching initrd equipped with almost every imaginable module that could be required for a successful boot. Did you try selecting the Grub menu option that uses it?

Two linux images
Hi, i checked the grub.conf file under rescue mode as root and found two images. I thought to take backup. Now I need to know which one to backup and then run mkinitrd. Also any changes to be done in grub.conf file? Tia
All. Note:I am using a sata converter for my hdd which was an ide drive. Anywhere I can chk this module?

what MOBO is it exactly and what version of Fedore (or whatever) do you try to use?
kernel 2.6 looks quite old, probably cannot handle that mobo at all.

Grub.conf is/was used by legacy Grub, which Fedora hasn't used in over a decade. The relevant boot file in non-ancient Fedoras is /boot/grub2/grub.cfg. Please tell us the Fedora version that is installed, the version on the USB stick you've been booting from, and paste here a file listing from /boot/ on the installed system.

do not post the same answer twice, that is just pointless.
Without details hard to say anything. From my side it can be just an incompatibility issue, the distro you use does not contain all the required drivers for that mobo/setup. But again, without knowing exactly what did you try it is just a wild guess.

Dracut's initial release was 13 months after FC9's release. If you plan on rebuilding its initramfs, I suggest you give the (already installed?) mkinitrd a try before messing with installation or use of dracut.

- IDE to SATA converters may cause various problems. Switch from your IDE HDD + converter to a SATA SSD. A budget SATA SSD is sufficient at SATA 3.0 GB/s controller of Intel H61 Express chipset.
- Switch to a more recent kernel, at least kernel 4.
