Change monitor settings

Please, i just installed what i think is L-M 6.5!!! we were able to install the HP monitor but the resolution is low so the windows are too big. Checked out the other posts, but my version is so old that it wasn't too much help. Since we are very beginners, i'm just running KDE and have been trying to find some program/wizard to change settings@!*&*#@
Arg. Also, BTW would it be possible to update this version?? It appears to be from 1999. We are very happy, however, as it was able to almost immediately connect to the internet via Netscape -- God only know how it was done but we've been at this for over a week now so any help would be appreciated. We still have to figure out how to install OpenOffice and Opera and Thunderbird as well as see if our home network can see us or vice versa
poco a poco.

Have a nice evening! with warmest greetings // fred:newbie:

wow mandrake 6.5
i dont think it had support for Samba (samba is the filesharing support for windows shares)

so you will need at least 9.2

10.1 official is out so maybe download that its approx 3 cds.

for the time being install of Firefox and Thunderbird are quite simple
openoffice is included in every single Mandrake edition these days along with full multimedia support. so maybe hold off downloading Office for now.

www.mozilla.org/products/firefox
www.mozilla.org/products/thunderbird

down them and extract them.
open a console and browser where you extracted firefox
bcome root using
su

type sh ./firefox-installer it will give you a gui but will probably ask you to install gtk++ i think.
it'll give an error message http://search.rpmseek.com/search.html?hl=com
search for the missing files under Dependencies provided.
