change desktop resolution in a VT **SOLVED**
 

I just switched out monitors from a Compaq P1220 CRT to an IBM ThnkVision flatpanel. I had the old resolution at 1600x1200, and the ThinkPanel gives me an 'out of range' message. where's the file that I can change my desktop resolution? I'm guessing somewhere in /etc/X11, but I can't dig it up in there....

EDIT: found the information I needed to change in /etc/X11/xorg.conf
