How is it connected? Do both drives share a cable, or are they each on a separate cable?
Is the drive in question plugged into a IDE/RAID dual mode connector, or is it just a regular IDE-ATA connector?

Have you considered the Master/Slave settings on the drives, and that they are correct?

Check /var/log/dmesg under Linux for any sign that the device IS actually detected during boot. Anything there? Or how about the LSHW command (which if you don't have you can get from Sourceforge) and try that to see if the drive is actually seen by the Linux system.

What sort of computer/motherboard is this? And what sort of drive, too..?
