CF Card Modem in Linux

The Broadcom internal modem on my Dell Inspiron 300m is not supported in Linux (even by Dell's Broadcom drivers that are floating around out there), so I have been searching for a suitable PC Card modem to replace it. However, I had an idea to save money and I need to know if it might work. If I could find a suitable PC Card-CompactFlash adapter (e.g. not a memory card reader), there any reason I couldn't use my PDA's CF modem (a Targus PA560, if anyone needs to know) in conjuction with such an adapter? I am pretty sure it is not a soft modem, mainly because it has no drivers. I have read this is possible in general, at least with a Windows-based laptop. Thanks if anyone can help.
