in terms of performance what mobile pentium 4 would an intel centrino 1.7 be equiavlent to. i tried looking on intels site for a comparison chart but found none????

Near 2.4 gigahertz Pentium 4 desktop processor not mobile processor.

You can get information from anandtech or toms hardware.
