cdrw probs

This is probaly a common problem.

CDRW wont work. Have browsed thru forum, cannot find a solution.

It is recognized during startup, and also in control centre/harddrake, where i got a location as /dev/hdd.
i can make symbolic links, but what point is a link to a broken ????.

I tried this, saw in a thread:
[root@localhost /dev]# /dev/hdd = cdrw
bash: /dev/hdd: Permission denied
[root@localhost /dev]# ls -l /dev/hdd
brwxrwx--- 2 root disk 22, 64 Apr 14 2001 /dev/hdd

it is the 2nd slave, after cdrom on same ide ribbon, sound out to aux input, soundcard(which i still havnt got going).
it is an ASUS ATAPI drive.

I'm not sure what you're trying to do with the line /dev/hdd = cdrw. It doesnt really make sense. However it would be best to try the following things to check if your CD-RW will work after them:

1. Is SCSI emulation shown in lsmod, it will be something like ide-scsi
2. Also try using the programs using the CD-RW as root and see if that helps.
