cdrom probs with 2.6.8.1

On a fresh install of Mandrake 10.0 my cd-rom worked fine. Built new 2.6.8.1 kernel and now I cannot mount it. I tried 'modprobe ide_cd'. This did not work. I tried make menuconfig and adding ide/atapi cdrom support to my kernel (followed by make). This did not solve the problem.

Harddrake sees everything about my cdrom (dvd-rom sd-r2512). It shows up at /dev/hdc, and is also there at /mnt/cdrom. When I go, "mount cdrom" it complains in the following way:

"wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/hdc, or too many mounted filesystems."

This fs works perfectly well in the 2.6.3.mdk7 kernel that shipped with my Mandrake, so I don't believe this to be the issue. I did not run any options (just mount cdrom). The last one I thought was ridiculous but I unmounted one of my partitions anyway just to be sure. That leaves the "bad superblock." I don't know what that is, so it's liekly to be the problem.

Is there anything I have not yet tried that might get things going again? Thanks for the help.

You didn't provide any options, but they do get added by mount - what is in your /etc/fstab for /mnt/cdrom?
