I have problem with useing CD drive in newly instaled Linux.
Originally on my HD there were Windows and Linux OS installed. I wanted to change partitions n disk so I did it. I used fdisk program and changed partition table erasig all data on disk and then made fresh install both Windows and Linux. Both instalacion went OK and both OS a working. Only problem ist that under Linux I can not mount CDROM. When I issue command:
$ mount /mnt/cdrom
mount: /dev/cdrom is not a valid block device
I get an error as stated above. So I typed nex two command:
$ ls -l /dev/cdrom
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 8 Aug 8 10:26 /dev/cdrom -> /dev/hdb
$ ls -l /dev/hdb
brw-rw---- 1 root disk 3, 64 Aug 30 2001 /dev/hdb
I dont know what is the problem!
I am useing RED HAT 7.2. CDROM is TEAC CD-540E rellatively new (old 1 year). Before reorganized HD I was useing also RH 7.2 and CD worked OK. Under Windows there is no problem with CDROM so I hope it is not hardware problem.
Hope You could help me fix this problem!!
Thanks

PS: By not being carefull I posted this question to Programming forum. Sorry!
I tried this to with same failture:
mount -t iso9660 /dev/hdb /mnt/cdrom
and
mount -t iso9660 /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom
On what IDE channel is your CD-ROM? What is its configuration? Is a primary slave (hdb), secondary master (hdc) or secondary slave (hdd) ? Or is it on cable select?
I did typed
modprobe cdrom
and now CDROM is responding. This confuse me because before I did not ever nod to do any settings with CD ROM and it worked. But if YOu say it is bug than nothing to be wondered about
Thank You for solved problem
