cd writer
i cant get my cd writer going it is a Cyperdrive from 2001/2002

What have you done so far to try to get it working?
IDE CD writers need SCSI emulation. You cna edit your bootloader config anappend an argument like: hdc=ide-scsi To the kernel command. This is assuming your cd rewriter is the device hdc. |
ok i am going to be precise
i tried to configure it throw the Mandrake Control Center with the mount divices (failed) directly entering it in the mount file (failed) installing it w/ the cd i installed it from on windows(failed) Box said it should work (no structions for installation) next it is IDE checked site: no help now how do i emulate scsi:confused: |
Do you use lilo or grub for your bootloader? You will need to put the SCSI emulation command in the one you use. Post which one you use and we can tell you where to put it.

it is a little more complexe or simple then it was
is is registered as a SCSI but is only being read as a CD drive also where would i find on my comupter the bootloader's identy |
Look here to see what you are using. Start thingy > Configuration > Mandrake Control Center. Click on boot then Drakboot. It should say which one you are currently using. I suspect since you don't know that you are using lilo. It is default on mine anyway.
Post back what you get. Later :D :D :D :D |
i am using lilo
(some one gave me a flick for not looking there) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ vindos (windows) is only good for gaming (i dont game) |
There is a lot in MCC. There may be some things there I don't know about yet.
Go back to MCC and boot then DrakBoot. Click on configure bootloader. You should have a entry that looks like linux with the kernel version. Highlight it and then click 'modify'. A box should open and put hdc=ide-scsi in the append line. Do NOT remove anything else, just add it to what is there. I am assuming that the drive is on the Secondary Master connection, that is hdc. If it is Secondary Slave then replace hdc with hdd. That should help get you going after you reboot of course. Later :D :D :D :D |

Sorry,  I should have put click OK on that window. You will then get the other window that will list the selections. You should have a couple for Linux and one for floppy and one for windoze.
My bad. I boo boo'd, again.   Rest should be OK, I hope. Later :D :D :D :D |
that is ok
i am a consel video gamer and i rember everything in any video games and i foreget what to do some times now how do i apply a writer /mnt |
The easiest way is to reboot so that the change will be made. It reads that when booting. Then go into Mandrake Control Center and click 'Mount Points'. Then click the CD/DVD Burner and let it walk you through. It should add it and just click OK. See if it works from there.
Hope that helps. Later :D :D :D :D |
oh man i really messed something up it mounted a harddisk and now my computer is bleeping every so often
|
Can you explain a little bit more what you did? The puter sees that has a hard drive in a way.
Post the fstab file. It's in the /etc directory. We'll get it sorted out. :D :D :D :D |
