CD sounds but mp3 doesn't

Hello Friends,
I recently installed xmms-1.2.8-3.p in FC1. also
xmms-devel-1.2.8-3.p
xmms-skins-1.2.8-3.p
xmms-mp3-1.2.8-3.p
It seems that I can play CD with xmms no problem in that but when I try to play mp3 stored in
/mnt/G then it shows that its playing but I cant hear any sound.
My sound card is creative sound blaster live. I also tried kmix. it works for cd but for mp3 nothing happens.

Thanks in advance.

Who is the owner of /mnt/G, what are the permissions on it?

Try unmounting the directory, then mount is as your user.
good luck.

Why are you running as root?

No particular reason. What is ur suggestion to solve this problem?
Should I login as normal user not as root? Then it will work ?

You shouldn't be running as root. It's dangerous, not to mention that it's not very secure. Will it fix the problem? Probably not, but it's a start in the right direction. Is /dev/hda5 a partition on the hard drive? If so, what is the file format/system?
good luck.

Are you trying to play the mp3's from xmms? Have you tried logging in as a user?
