CD/RW Mounting

I have a compaq presario with a CD/RW DVD Drive. I've been trying lots of devices to mount onto a blank cd to burn and I can't find it. All I can do is mount /dev/cdrom for read only

You can't mount something that doesn't have a filesystem on it; since blank CDs don't have a filesystem, you can't mount them :)

Check out the CD-Writing HOWTO for some suggestions on what software to use. cdrecord is one common command-line program; xcdroast or gnome-toaster are some GUIs that are popular. There also may be some hardware configuration to do, such as loading modules for SCSI emulation; see the HOWTO for details.
