cd-rw/dvd combo drive in linux?

I'm looking into buying a cd-rw/dvd combo drive as they are getting relatively inexpensive. The one I saw on sale for under $100 was a LG Goldstar 4120b, or 4320b. The manufacturer said that it was only supported for reading under linux but sometimes they are pretty unaware. Does anybody know about these drives? Or any combo drives in general, can I make the dvd reading and cd burning work? I know playing dvd's is a separate issue but I'm interested in reading dvd data cd's.

although i don't know it, i'd be pretty damn sure that it will work properly. All the dealer is saying is that it only comes with burning software for windows. Heaven forbid the thought that you wouldn't need some driver cdrom to make it work on linux! but a dvd/cdrw combo for under $100 personally even i would rather spend more money on something of that ability, up to you though. better still, buy seperates, unless you're really pushed for space.

I have a working combo drive under Linux

It would be rather ironic really, needing a driver CD to install the CD drive.

I agree with acid_kewpie. If you are not pressed for space, get separate dvd and cd-rw. It'll be better in the long run...
