Angry CD-RW & DVD Problem

I have a CD-RW and a DVD/CD-ROM drives in my computer and I can't make the DVD/CD work even if it is recognised. I can't mount anything form this device. The CD-RW and DVD are on the same IDE chain, the DVD rom is the master (hdc). I suppuse I mistaking something in the SCSI emulation of the CD-RW... could it be?? please help!

so you mean that if you type at a prompt as root:
<prompt># mount /dev/hdc /mnt/dvd
(with a disc in the drive of course)
it tells you that you can't mount it?

if this is the case you've got bigger problems... if that does work though... what are you using to burn with?

xcdroast + cdrecord ?
