Post cd-rom wont work

When i first got my computer and installed linux, (by booting from the cd) my cd-rom worked. Now when i put in a cd sometimes the cd-roms light will stay on forever like its in an infinite loop and when i mount the cd-rom, i get a no medium found error. And the other times the light will blink some and go off, but when i try to mount the cd rom i get the same error. And when i try to boot from the cd rom i get a failure error. Is there maybe some bios setting i might try changing or something. Any info would be helpful.

It could be, im just hoping it isnt. Im starting to think it might have dirt in it because sometimes (very rarely) it works, so im gonna go buy a cleaner for it.

Cleaner's not a bad idea. If you haven't already tried, see if a variety of CD's will change its behavior. I have an aging CD-Rom that does the same after the computer has been up and running a while, or trying to access that drive. In my case, it's either dirty lens or heat. I just can't decide why heat would be a factor.
