Cd-Rom drive problem
My first problem is with the lower cd-rom which is a cd-rw drive. So anyways, yesterday I was installing red hat 9 and everything was going well. Then, after I finished installation, wanted to make it quick by only installing few things, I logged in and went to add/remove apps. Everything started well as I began to install kde and such. But then, it asked me to put in the 3rd cd of the installation cds, which is when it all went wrong. As soon as I put it in and the drive tried to read it, there came a noise from the drive as though something was being drilled or smashed into, kind of like a loud vibration. I quickly quit the installation after trying again (same thing happend), and went to try another cd from the installation set. Now when I put in the first cd nothing happened and the drive mounted as though everything was fine. So I though I would restart my computer and try it in Win98. Alas, I only found the same thing happen and it still is going on today. I have completly no idea why this would happen since every other cd so far works and I tried the 3rd cd of the red hat installation on my old pc where it was nicely read. The wierdest part is that yesterday in the morning before I started the installation the drive had read the cd perfectly...... (also my top drive stopped reading cds a few months ago so there is no point in trying to use it.) Anyone know what might be going on and why only that cd won't be read?
