CD-Rom acting strange.

If i have a cd in my drive when linux is booted there will be an icon for it on the desktop.

If i eject the cd the icon will go away, but if i put another cd in the drive, the icon will NOT come back.

If i click on mycomputer and right click on the drive to mount it, it will say..
can't find cdrom in /etc/fstab or /etc/mtab

However, if i start up K3b cd burning software the disk will show up and the icon will appear back on the desktop.

How can i get my drive to be browsable without having to start k3b everytime i eject a cd?

Im using suse 10
