CD ripping!!!

Ok, first of all im a COMPLETELY new to linux so be easy on me and thanks for your help in advance. I don't know if this is a software problem or hardware.

My problem is CD ripping. I have used both KAudioCreator and the Ogg Vorbis copy method through Konquerer and in both situations my ripping stalls just after a second. It doesn't even reach 1 percent.
Went it went into terminal and typed in /sbin/hdparm /dev/hdc , I got this:

HDIO_GET_MULTCOUNT failed: Invalid Arguement
IO_Support = 1 (32-bit)
unmaskirq = 1 (on)
Using dma = 1 (on)
Keep Settings = 0 (off)
Read Only = 0 (off)
Read Ahead = 256 (on)
HDIO_GETGEO failed: Invalid Arguement

Im using Mandrake and the KDE GUI.

Im not sure what to do exactly. I am fresh over from Windows so, I'm unsure if i need to install a driver for my CD burner. The computer was built by me and I recently just learned how to do that. Thanks for your help!

I dont kow anything about KaudioCreator, never used it.

Have you tryed using cdparanoia?

cdparanoia -B

will rip each track of the cd into individual files.

I will try it but, i'm sort of sceptical. I might go back to windows because I just want this computer for music and I can't seem to get linux to do it for me.
:(

I usually use Grip without any problem.
In my opinion, linux requires little bit more patience to understand links interaction and to make it working, but results in many benefits. Now it is hard for me to return from Linux back to Windows despite win's better-looking appearance.

Be patient
