cd player for suse10

I'v been running suse10 for a long time. KScd has been working with normal music cd's(store). Now it won't recogized music cd's. Windows cd player can read and play cd's. I have two cd roms. Master: 24x cd player, slave: a cd writer hp8200.

I tried switching the audio cable to the other cd rom to no effect. I'm baffled. So need help.

Windows doesn't make use of that cable... (so that doesn't tell you anything).

Are you sure that "/dev/cdrom" has all permissions (if it doesn't exits, do "ln -s /dev/your_device /dev/cdrom").

You can also do the same as in Windows(without using that small cable) with most audio players(like xmms) in GNU/Linux.

drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 48 2005-10-14 17:58 cdrom
drwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 2006-03-29 18:01 floppy

Both of these are older drives that require the cable I was told. kcd says there's no disk, but if go into my computer I see audio cd shown?? Amarock won't play the files either.
