CD burner is /dev/hdd, but doesn't show up in cdrecord --scanbus

The title really says it all My CD burner used to work, and now, for some reason, is determined to be invisible. Looking through dmesg:

Code:
[root@hostname /home/laura]# dmesg | grep ^hd
hda: WDC WD1600JB-00FUA0, ATA DISK drive
hdb: MAXTOR 6L020J1, ATA DISK drive
hdc: CDU5211, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive
hdd: SONY CD-RW CRX175E, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive
hda: attached ide-disk driver.
hda: host protected area => 1
hda: 312581808 sectors (160042 MB) w/8192KiB Cache, CHS=19457/255/63, UDMA(100)
hdb: attached ide-disk driver.
hdb: host protected area => 1
hdb: 40132503 sectors (20548 MB) w/1819KiB Cache, CHS=2654/240/63, UDMA(133)
hdd: attached ide-cdrom driver.
hdd: ATAPI 40X CD-ROM CD-R/RW drive, 2048kB Cache, DMA
hdc: attached ide-scsi driver.
It's obviously plugged in and sending the right information.
However...
Code:
[root@hostname /home/laura]# !cd
cdrecord --scanbus
Cdrecord 2.00.3 (i686-pc-linux-gnu) Copyright (C) 1995-2002 Jörg Schilling
Linux sg driver version: 3.1.25
Using libscg version 'schily-0.7'
scsibus0:
cdrecord: Warning: controller returns wrong size for CD capabilities page.

[root@hostname /home/laura]#
Is there anything that I can do to make the burner (hdd) show up as valid for cdrecord again?

Thanks!
-Laura

Are you using ide-scsi emulation on such drive ?
What says
dmesg | grep sr. ?
If not try
cdrecord dev=ATAPI -scanbus
it should return any atapi devices connected
Hope this helps
Ciao
