CD and DVD write fails
My laptop has an integrated DVD+/-RW drive. I have lots of trouble burning CDs and DVDs making distro and archive data media. Can someone please help me discover what is going wrong?
I download an ISO of some distro image. Open the download folder and double-click to lauch my favorite burn tool -- usually Brasero but I'm starting to like K3B. When the software first touches the media, I get errors that the media is not blank or has out-of-box errors. I've tried waiting for software to ask for media and having media in place when I launch the tool. Yes, the media is blank, unwritten, brand new from the box. (Okay, it is not a box but a tube of media so I know there will be a few which are zorch OoB. However, I'm seeing 20% trouble rate.) Thanks, ~~~ 0;-Dan |
What kind of connection does the drive use. Is it using SATA or EIDE? I have had issues with my SATA drive before with I/O Errors and could never really track them down. The only thing I can think of is your using really really cheep media like something that goes for 10 bucks for 100 dics or something. But thats just a guess cause I have used really cheep disks before without any issues. Only thing I can think of really that may be whats going on is the drive is not spinning up before attempting to write data but thats just a guess. You should checkout some of the options in the programs your useing and try some diffrent combinations or perhaps lookup the make of your drive and see if it has issues and if there are workarounds.

Maybe a dirty lens in dvd drive?? How old is it? Bad run of discs? Does this happen across all media types? Have you tried other software? Maybe you need updated firmware for (newer) media type(s).
