I got a panicked call from a team member who was 2/3 of the way across the country and prepping for a big test to be run the next day and found that the boot floppy (that contained software we'd written and was needed for the system test) had become corrupted and that the removable disk pack with the OS & development system wouldn't boot so he couldn't rebuild the floppy. We managed to get the bootstrap code for the OS disk entered via the system's front panel keypad, got the system booted, rewrote the OS disk's boot block, rebooted from that disk successfully, and got the floppy rebuilt. Those were the days.
Yeah... and I've used one of those great, hulking IBM card readers as well. Good riddance to that technology. But I digress...
