Cant read usb drive, kernel bug?
I have an usb drive that my linux systems cant read.
In Windows XP everything works and other usb drives works without problems. Is this a kernel bug or what? I run OpenSuse 10.2 and Slackware 11 with kernel 2.6.19. I doesnt work on any of my systems. dmesg: usb 3-3.3: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 6 usb 3-3.3: new device found, idVendor=14cd, idProduct=6600 usb 3-3.3: new device strings: Mfr=1, Product=3, SerialNumber=2 usb 3-3.3: Product: USB 2.0 IDE DEVICE usb 3-3.3: Manufacturer: Super Top usb 3-3.3: SerialNumber: ?????????? usb 3-3.3: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice scsi1 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices usb-storage: device found at 6 usb-storage: waiting for device to settle before scanning Vendor: IC25N040 Model: ATMR04-0 Rev: 0 0 Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 00 SCSI device sda: 78140160 512-byte hdwr sectors (40008 MB) sda: Write Protect is off sda: Mode Sense: 03 00 00 00 sda: assuming drive cache: write through SCSI device sda: 78140160 512-byte hdwr sectors (40008 MB) sda: Write Protect is off sda: Mode Sense: 03 00 00 00 sda: assuming drive cache: write through sda:<6>sd 1:0:0:0: SCSI error: return code = 0x10070000 end_request: I/O error, dev sda, sector 0 printk: 121 messages suppressed. What happens when you manually mount the drive?
|
I cant mount it because linux wont find any filesystems on it, just /dev/sda etc.
I cant fdisk it neither, I will result in an I/O error. The disk isnt corrupted because it works under windows and osx. |
It's a kernel bug. Upgrade to the latest kernel and submit a kernel bug report if it's not fixed yet
