Cant install any Unix (Sol or Linux) on Sparc LX

I bought sparcstation lx which was in working condition loaded with redhat linux. I dont have monitor so have to use VT100 term from windows.

the box is connected to a sun 411 cd drive. I am trying to install
redhat 6.x sparc version:

a) Did any one on earth could succesfully configure sparc lx to work with regular monitor? After reading many articles about web (all talking about 13W cable), I bought one. But no luck. It wont work. Every one says , there are many 13W VGA cables and adapters but no one says which one to choose & how to select?

Most important:

b) from hyperterm vt100, the machine can talk perfect. At OK prompt, I say boot cdrom. The installation loads very well. BUT
when it comes to formatting and partitionling, it hangs for ever.
Same with Suse 7 sparc version also.

I did autopartition as well as manual. But both have same problem, The slices would be created but while partitioning it hangs.

Anythoughts here:

And finally if you say i have to change the drive then:

Note: The harddrive which I am using is seagate 2.4 GB drive. Its was very well working on intel machine both on unix and windows.

Question:I however, decided to change the hard drive. Can I replace it with 12GB drive? Again my q is , can Sparc LX support single 12 GB internal Drive??????

I don't think the PROM on the sparc is capable of conceiving of that big of a drive space. At least, that's what it seems like. Did the LX cough on the 12gb drive, or the old 2gb drive? Also, SuSe's sparc edition runs very chunky, so does Linux's, the best bet for an old LX is still probably NetBSD or OpenBSD.

The adapter problem isn't the adapter, its the monitor, the sync ranges for these things are insane, plus one of the hd-15 pins needs to be sync on green... or its the other way round... there are a lot of sparc faq's floating around out there. Basically, you can break a pin off of an existing monitor, or play "juggle the monitors" until it finds one it likes. In my case that was a tiny little 15-inch sanyo I picked up for $25 eons ago.

Thanks for your advice finegan. I tired monitor portion but no luck. I further refered to some other docs and bought a different adapter with jumpers, waiting to get it and hope it works.

Any body please:

I want to know if I can put 18Gig drive in Sparcstation LX machine and want to install linux or any unix. I want to know if its works.

I already did put the drive but linux installation kicks off saying no drive. when I do probe-scsi the machine recognizes the disk.

Let me know.
