Canon Printer on x86_64

Hey

I did a rather cumbersome install of my Canon printer on my old machine. My printer is the PIXMA ip2600. Install requires two packages, a common 'filter' and the actual driver. For some annoying reason, they offer the sources for filter, but not the driver. My new machine is 64-bit, so I'm a bit SOL on the driver part.

I'm anything other than a ninja when it comes to printers and whatnot. I know I can compile the sources, but it's all for not unless there's a suitable printer (even generic one) out there for my printer. Do I need to go buy another printer?

EDIT: My printer is not supported by gutenprint, but I'm assuming I can pick up a compatible one on the cheap (used). Does anyone have any experience w/ said package?

Power on your printer. Try echo /etc/fstab >/dev/usb/lp0, or wherever it shows. Do you see anything?
have a look at 'gs -h |less' Ghostscript seems to provide drivers on or close to your printer

might get you going
