Canon MG3100 printer configuration

Hi Folks,

I downloaded driver for linux for multiprinter Canon MG3100 from page http://support-sg.canon-asia.com/con...100393702.html

everything works fine, I can print, I can connect via router to the printer but there is problem when I want to set color mode to greyscale. Only what printer offer me is RGB mode. And also the scanner is problem do you know some more recent driver which can handle everything or point me to some good config manual to that

Thanks a lot
Maikki

cannon is very well known for NOT supporting linux
if it is NOT in cups nor on the cannon web site then you are out of luck

install windows 7 to use the cannon scanner/printer
or
buy a different printer/scanner

scan on canon printer

although true that canon provides poor support for linux, the drivers for many (at least all I have owned so far) canon products is availabe on the web pages for singapore or australia. I have used 'scangear' app, availabe from the same site listed in the original post started, from command line without problems. if the debian pkg doesnt work (or not using a debian based distro) the source pkg is availabe. while some people like decorated windows i would much rather type one command that asks for the document location and then just works. as for the suggestion to 'buy an new printer' i say screw that. the reason i use linux is because i want to use my computer how i decide, why should a printer or any other gadget be any different. i have yet to find anything that i could not use on linux thanks to the awesome individuals who give their time and knowledge to create the software. who needs corporate support when you have community support? just give us the code that runs the products we buy and we will do the rest!

had to come back to correct my own ignorance and the so-called 'guru' from the posted response to this thread. in fact there is a cups driver available for the canon mg3100 series (and many more). i installed a mg3120 with about four mouse clicks in about two minutes and just printed off the test page to verify it is working wirelessly. i have installed the same printer on windows computers and it took longer, loaded more software than i needed or wanted and worst of all i had to deal with windows. trust in the linux community, it just works! anyne who suggests installing windows seven should probably have their 'guru' tag pulled. seriously!
