Canon has really crappy support for Linux, and actually charges for it's full featured drivers, for a printer you purchased no less. Here is a website that sells the driver, which also has a free (but limited) version that should get you up and running. Check to see if your model is listed.
i was reading other posts, and while reading one on an Epson printer some useer had mentioned his i860. used turboprint to get it to work. i d/loaded that and the printer is working much better now. still not like on XP, but hey...
There are linux drivers available, you'll find them on the Japanese canon website, I have posted some info before not sure if it was this linux forum though. From memory you'll need three files, one was a cups file, one to satisfy a dependency, and the file specific to your printer( these wre the ones for more i560, libpng2-1.0.12-2mdk.i586.rpm, bjfilterpixus560i-2.4-0.i386.rpm and bjfiltercups-2.4-0.i386.rpm. This might help you find them.
