cannot run x winth nvidia drivers fx5200 slackware 10.2
Installed the drivers dwnloaded from the nv site 1.0 - 8178 , the installer made the modifications for the xorg.config. the x server cannot start nv logo flashes, and locks the session. dmseg says :
agpgart: Maximum main memory to use for agp memory: 439M
agpgart: Detected Via Apollo Pro KT400 chipset
agpgart: unable to determine aperture size.
tryed changing or disabling aparature size, nothing.
in syslog:
kanta insmod: /lib/modules/2.4.31/kernel/drivers/hotplug/shpchp.o.gz: init_module: No such device
this repetes several times,
kanta insmod: /lib/modules/2.4.31/kernel/drivers/hotplug/pciehp.o.gz: insmod pciehp failed
after repeating the following line ...
kanta kernel: agpgart: unable to determine aperture size.
kanta insmod: /lib/modules/2.4.31/kernel/drivers/char/agp/agpgart.o.gz: init_module: Invalid argument
and one more thing, in one of the older versions of the driver there was a problem with the conflict between the nvidia driver and the rivafb module, This version didnt said anithing about that, suppose they corrected the problem, may be helpful to eliminate the rivafb module, if anyone could elp with that ?
# ServerLayout sections.
# **********************************************************************
# Any number of ServerLayout sections may be present. Each describes
# the way multiple screens are organised. A specific ServerLayout
# section may be specified from the X server command line with the
# "-layout" option. In the absence of this, the first section is used.
# When now ServerLayout section is present, the first Screen section
# is used alone.
Section "ServerLayout"
# The Identifier line must be present
# Each Screen line specifies a Screen section name, and optionally
# the relative position of other screens. The four names after
# primary screen name are the screens to the top, bottom, left and right
# of the primary screen. In this example, screen 2 is located to the
# right of screen 1.
# Each InputDevice line specifies an InputDevice section name and
# optionally some options to specify the way the device is to be
# used. Those options include "CorePointer", "CoreKeyboard" and

Well, the obvious thing I was looking for is set correctly: "Driver nvidia". I'll yield to someone who's more familiar with the nuts and bolts of video adapters to step in and help.
