Hi, I've just discarded Winzozz in favor of Linux (FC2) and I found it a lot better.
I've managed to made my pc work as usual but my backup DVDs: with Gnome, as I put them in the drive they are mounted automatically, but I found that all "closed" DVD (I've made them with Nero 6, UDF) are read as "iso9660 volume", files listed but unreadable (can't read owner, permission, filesize) and I can't copy or read them.

I even tried to make an image of DVD and mount it, but the results were the same.

I've also tried them on other PCs with different DVD drives and they read them without problems, just the Xbox presents similar issues.

Ah, I forgot: the DVD drive is a LG4082 internal

I don't know if you want to hear this, but i recently had the same problems - I would mount a dvd and nothing would happen. The problem was, it worked fine before under linux and then it just stopped working.

1. Do you have udf enabled in the kernel? I think FC does this automatically, but wouldn't hurt to check. To do this, cd /usr/src/linux. In a command prompt (as root in /usr/src/linux) do : make menuconfig.
Scroll down to file systems and such and make sure that UDF is in fact enabled.

2. (As in my case) The dvd unit has failed. I could mount cdroms until all of the cows came home but i couldn't for the life of me get a dvd to mount. No matter what i did. So i sent it back to HP and got a new one. Works now like it did before, so you might want to consider the fact that your dvd-rom has failed (i hope that isn't the case though).

I've tried "modprobe udf" but the response was a blank line, is it right?

After searching thru forums and tutorials I found references to /etc/mtab file, and I noticed that the only DVD I can read is mounted as iso9660 (but it was created as UDF in Nero) and the others are unreadable as UDF and unmountable as iso9660 (filesystem cannot be mouted error)

Could upgrading to FC3 help?

I've also tried download and compile UDF module from sourceforge, but I don't know how to patch my kernel with, do you know where I can find instructions about this?

OK, I've updated the kernel to 2.6.8 version and it solved the problem, guess it was really a bad kernel configuration.
