Angry Cannot lower refresh rate

To be brief, I have installed Debian Sarge with kernel 2.6.17.11 and I use gnome. I have a nvidia GForce2 MX/MX400 and a NEC LCD1711M that operates best at 1280x1024@60Hz. If I use the nv drivers everything is perfect... If I use the official nvidia 1.0-8774 drivers I cannot change the refresh rate, it is stucked at 75Hz.
This is my XF86Config-4
Code:
Section "ServerLayout"
    Identifier "Default Layout"

EndSection

EndSection
Is it a bug or the max resolution of the monitor resides somewhere else than XF86Config-4.

Change those lines:
Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Generic Monitor"
HorizSync 30.0 - 65.0
VertRefresh 50.0 - 60.0
Option "DPMS"
EndSection

to the values that suit your monitor because they seem quite low. You should be able to find the correct values somewhere in the manual for your monitor.
