Cannot install SCSI Driver for Compaq Smart Array in Fedora Core V
 

I have an older Compaq Prolinat DL380 server with an integrated Smart Array Controller V 1.50

I have configured 2 logical volumes using the HP SmartStart CD.

When I installed Fedora Core IV, I noted that it loaded the cpqarray module during the setup bootup, and I could access the array.

When I attempted to install Fedora Core V, the Installer informs me that it cannot locate any hard disks to install to. If I tell it to manuallyload the cpqarray driver, it claims to have done so, but whent he GUI installer loads and searched for previous FC installations, it errors out saying it could not find any hard disks.

I have tried booting the FC V setpu with "linux dd" and inserting a floppy disk with the cpqarray.o file on it to load. However, FCV says it cannot find a driver disk in the drive.
(To test the floppy I booted an old Windows98 CD I and and from Windows98 CLI I could access the floppy just fine, so I don't belive that to be the problem).

Has anyone been able to get FC V installed on a Compaq DL380 or a Compaq using the same SCSI controller? Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated.

i have the same issue with my smart array controller v 1.50 but with a compaq proliant dl 360. were you able to find a solution, and if so a post would be greatly appreciated or can you email me at LEONARDC@JANUSASSOCIATES.COM. i am also looking for the correct driver. Thanks in advance.

Apparently when the installation autoprobes devices it does not properly load the cpqarray driver but does when you manually specify the array.

Here are the steps I took:

linux noprobe acpi=noirq askmethod

The 'noprobe' got me around the array issue. The 'acpi' stuff got me around a CD-ROM issue.

Had to enter the intel NIC when asked and chose the Smart/2 Array (cpqarray) when asked.

:) Thanks for the post! It fixed my problem with getting my Compaq DL360 server's array working with a Fedora Core 6 install. Appartently, HP doesn't support the servers anymore with their SmartStart and I can't find the original SmartStart that came with the server, so I was getting quite frustrated with getting my install to recognize my array controller and scsi drives during the install.

It works for me too.... sort of
 

This fix did in fact get me past the scsi problem. Still had some other install problems, but that is beside the point. Thanks!

I am trying to install Ubuntu on a Compaq ProLiant Server and I am 100% new to Linux. I feel this thread has the information I need to get it to work but I am not sure I understand it. When I try and install Ubuntu, I run the Install icon on the desktop and it does not recgonize me having any hard drives, even though I have 2 SCSI drives.

I added "linux noprobe acpi=noirq askmethod" by hitting F6 over the Ubuntu Install (first option) selection at the main installer screen. I added it to the end of the commands already typed into there, then hit enter. I am not sure that I added that line right.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!! THANKS!!

What Version of Ubuntu are you trying to install? I'll try it myself quickly, if I have it.

I have been installing 6.10 (Edgy)... I may have found the problem. I found a website that says any kernel between 2.4 and 2.6.18 doesn't correctly load my RAID driver( http://www.mcnabbs.org/andrew/linux/proliant/ ). The thing is I can't install 6.10 and upgrade cuz 6.10 doesn't recgonize my SCSI hard drives. I tried installing 7.04 it has a 2.6.18 kernel, and it seems to work but since it is an alpha it is super buggy just installing it so, that seems useless. I have been trying to find a 6.10 Ubuntu with a 2.6.18 kernel upgrade.

Also, I am not sure if this matters but I cannot upgrade my Array firmware to 1.5 from 1.42. When running the maintenance cd, I click update and it just doesn't do anything. The cd upgraded my BIOS and SCSI driver though.

I just tried 7.04 with a 2.6.18 kernel and that still did not recognize my hard drives. I am not sure if it is my 1.42 smart array or something?

I installed Fedora 6 on my DL360

I feel like an idiot for asking but how do you build a driver CD or Diskette to use when the install process asks for it when using the "noprobe" option? All of the firmware packs I find for the Intel Pro 100 NIC need to be compiled. If I am able to compile the source for the driver, which files do I need to put on a diskette and in what format do I build the diskette? I only have floppy drives on a server running Windows 2000.
